Astrological News May 2009

Hello, my dear friends and clients!

As you can see, there are big events occurring in our world, and in this letter I would like to address the H1N1 influenza and how its occurrence relates to astrology. If you received my newsletter from last month, you will recall that I wrote about the conjunction of Mars and Uranus in the sign of Pisces and how it would affect the month of April for us. Here is a quote from last month’s forecast:

“April will be a very intense month! On 15 April, Mars and Uranus will form an exact conjunction, so for ten days, from the 5th of April until the conjunction has passed, unexpected events will occur.

This conjunction occurs in the sign of Pisces, which is a water sign and the ruler of religion and spirituality. The potential occurrences of this conjunction could range from a contaminated water supply or conflict over water (including a major rain storm) to a major event concerning religion. Depending on where this major conjunction falls in your chart, be aware during the first half of April! We will definitely have surprises. This conjunction will especially affect those born within three days of March 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15.

On April 21, Venus and Mars will conjoin in Pisces. Venus is the planet that governs self-worth, and Mars’ domain is the fire of passion and fast action. This will be a good time to reflect on what happened that went wrong and make the moves to fix it.”

Let us go back and look…this will give you a better understanding of the art of interpreting astrological events. First of all, the first documented case of the H1N1 virus is believed to be a little boy in Veracruz, and he was ill with the virus in early April. His village has pig farms close by and the village residents were complaining about water contamination. The Mars (infections, inflammation)/Uranus (unexpected events) conjunction occurred exactly at that time. Hence, a global event. While it is very difficult for astrologers to exactly predict an epidemic or something like September 11, we certainly can see what is coming and what its magnitude is likely to be. While it is expected that we can exactly pinpoint something, it is a myth that we can tell the exact date and event every time. We work in probabilities based upon hundreds of years of cycles and historic events recorded by our predecessors.

In English we call astrology that deals with world events “mundane astrology.” There are many branches of astrology, such as mundane, personal, medical and karmic. Vedic astrology is based on karma, but its translation into the Western way of thinking is extremely difficult, and a very different form of astrology from the European astrology my colleagues and I practice.

Astrology has nothing whatsoever in common with tarot, psychic readings or palm readings. Astrology is a science based upon thousands of years of observing the movement of the planets and stars. Even in these modern times, the Mayans hold the honor of having created the most accurate astrological forecasting tool, in three different dimensions. The difficulty is with interpreting exactly what they were documenting and predicting. As we move toward 2012, the “big year,” please understand that the year itself is not the “grand finale.” We are already in the final phases of what the Mayans so accurately predicted so long ago, and 2012 is the closing of a cycle of approximately 25,000 years. What we are experiencing right now, today, is a process of faulty systems failing, globally and personally. It is our responsibility to become aware of what we ourselves are doing that acts as a destructive or beneficial force in our lives. It is our responsibility to learn and grow; no one else can do it for us. This growth takes place in everyday life. The decisions we make and the ways we react determine our future. Do we choose to unconsciously react, or do we choose a more productive method? It is up to each of us.

Let us now turn our attention to this month of May. The economy is worsening because of the influenza outbreak, and on Wednesday May 6, Mercury will go into retrograde motion (it will appear to be in reverse orbit) until the end of the month. This occurs three times a year, usually, for a duration of three weeks. Retrograde Mercury is a time to research, to revisit issues in our lives that need attention, or to return to an old idea that we abandoned before. It is not a time to begin anything brand-new or to sign contracts if they can be avoided. Retrograde Mercury also causes delays and failures in communication and travel, making simple things more difficult. Also, major purchases during a Mercury retrograde are not a good idea, especially in terms of electronics or large appliances or even cars.

So what can we do? We can learn, we can raise our awareness in order to have a better understanding of ourselves and how we behave. We can investigate different ways of doing things rather than relying on things that don’t work because they were a bad idea to begin with. May will be a month of revelations on a global scale, and also in our personal lives if we are alert and curious to learn.

One thing of note for artists (painting, music, writing, etc.)…this particular retrograde Mercury has enormous benefits for selling work, especially pieces that did not gain any attention before. This is due to Jupiter and Neptune forming a rare conjunction in the sign of Aquarius (innovation, humanity, technology, advancement). Jupiter is the planet that governs beneficial events (“luck”) and Neptune is the planet governing imagination, creativity and spirituality. This conjunction will be active through the month of June, but the signals will be the strongest from now until May 27, when Neptune goes into retrograde. Make the most of this time and initiate your contacts!
